The history of Alplodge Hostel in Interlaken
From historic foundations…
The foundations of the Alplodge were laid in the year 1623 at the historic north-south passage near the high bridge over the river Aare. In the year 1801 the building was turned into a guesthouse, at the same time as the attic floor was constructwas built. Later, the middle section was extended with a small dining room (today’s bar) to the later Bellevue and supplemented with rooms for guests and staff. In 1897, at the beginning of the heyday of the up-and-coming tourist spa town of Interlaken, the current Hotel Bellevue was added.
…to one of the first backpacker hostels in Interlaken
In 1982 the Alplodge was converted into a backpacker hostel. In 2009 during a big renovation, the communal guest kitchen and four shared bathrooms were installed, everything was repainted, and all bathrooms were renewed. In 2011 the planning for the renovation of the roof over the Alplodge began. A lift was installed and the communal kitchen was enlarged with a luminous lounge and a large roof terrace. The overall impression of Alplodge today is bright, friendly and modern, while still containing its very own whimsical charm with historical slopes and angles.
Today the Alplodge offers a total of 70 beds in 22 rooms – from single rooms to double rooms and from family rooms to multi-bed rooms for up to six people.
